The Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway is a planned 700-kilometre strategic road corridor connecting North-Central and North-East Nigeria.
The project is intended to strengthen regional connectivity, improve movement along a major northward corridor and support trade and economic activity across the areas it serves.
Construction has formally commenced on the 125-kilometre Akwanga–Jos section, marking the initial delivery phase of the wider corridor. The Federal Government has approved ₦111 billion in take-off funding.
The project’s long-term significance will depend on sustained funding, effective project execution and progress beyond the initial section. Its development is therefore an important infrastructure story to monitor for its potential impact on connectivity, commerce, security and regional economic activity.
