Namibia selected Hyphen Hydrogen Energy (a joint venture of South Africa’s Nicholas Holdings and Germany’s Enertrag) in November 2021 to develop the first project under its Southern Corridor Development Initiative — a vertically integrated green hydrogen/ammonia complex on roughly 4,000km2 of concessioned land inside Tsau//Khaeb National Park. The government holds 24% equity in the project through the SDG Namibia One Fund, launched at COP27 as the country’s primary green hydrogen finance vehicle. National strategy targets 10-12 million tonnes per annum of hydrogen-equivalent production by 2050 across three planned hydrogen valleys, with Hyphen’s ~$10bn first project targeting Final Investment Decision within 2026.
