The Abidjan–Lagos Coastal Motorway is a 1,028km six-lane highway connecting Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria — five of West Africa’s largest economies and the continent’s most densely populated coastal corridor. The project has attracted $15.6bn in investment interest and construction is scheduled to commence in 2026. It is backed by the ECOWAS regional body and the African Development Bank. The highway directly integrates five major ports (Abidjan, Tema, Lomé, Cotonou, Lagos) and passes through coastal cities with a combined population of tens of millions.
