The Federal Government has confirmed that the Kano Jigawa Katsina Maradi railway project is now 60 percent complete, with delivery expected by December 2027.
This was disclosed by Ali Bukar, Resident Engineer from the Federal Ministry of Transportation, during an inspection visit by the Presidential Media Team to project sites in Jigawa State.
The team, led by Sunday Dare, visited the area to assess the progress of ongoing federal and state projects across the Northwest.
Progress Across Key Sections
Construction work is advancing across major parts of the railway line.
On the Kano to Dutse route, engineers are currently focused on bridge construction across waterways and difficult terrain. Foundation work, including piling and substructure development, is at an advanced stage, while installation of bridge structures is ongoing in several locations.
Progress has also been recorded along the Kano to Jigawa section, which covers about 104 kilometres.
The branch line connecting Kano to Dutse is also taking shape, with track laying, earthworks, and structural components already in place.
Funding and Importance
The project is being fully funded under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Programme of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
When completed, the railway is expected to improve transportation across northern Nigeria, strengthen trade links, and enhance the movement of goods and people between Nigeria and neighbouring Niger Republic.
Other Projects Inspected
The Presidential Media Team also visited other key projects in Kano and Jigawa States. These include an interchange flyover in Tal Udu, a waterline project from Kapin Chiri Dam for irrigation, a skills acquisition centre in Dutse, and agricultural equipment provided to support farming.
Outlook
With the project now past the halfway mark, focus will be on maintaining progress and meeting the 2027 delivery timeline.
The railway is seen as a major step toward improving infrastructure and boosting economic activity in the region. Read more news from today https://www.theprojectherald.com/adnoc-unveils-55b-growth-plan/
