Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt acquired the Arcadia lithium mine near Harare for $422m in 2022 through its local unit Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe, commissioning a $300m spodumene concentrator in 2023. In April 2026 the site shipped Africa’s first lithium sulphate export cargo, making it the first Zimbabwean operator with a fully commissioned midstream processing plant, directly ahead of Zimbabwe’s beneficiation mandate. Huayou exported roughly 400,000 tonnes of lithium concentrate from Zimbabwe in 2024 prior to the sulphate ramp-up.
