Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, a joint venture between South Africa’s Nicholas Holdings and Germany’s Enertrag, is developing Namibia’s first large-scale green hydrogen-to-ammonia project on ~4,000km2 of concessioned land in Tsau//Khaeb National Park near Luderitz. The ~$10bn project (Phase 1 costed at $4.4bn) combines roughly 5GW of wind/solar generation with 3GW of electrolyser capacity to produce up to 300,000 tonnes/year of green hydrogen, exported as ammonia to Europe, Japan and South Korea. The Namibian government holds 24% equity via the SDG Namibia One Fund, and in December 2025 AfDB approved a $10m loan to fund front-end engineering design (FEED) work ahead of a targeted 2026 Final Investment Decision.
