Ireland Opens Applications for Fully Funded Master's Scholarships for Nigerians

ABUJA, NIGERIA — Nigerians seeking to pursue postgraduate studies abroad will soon have another opportunity as the Embassy of Ireland has announced that applications for the 2026 Ireland Fellows Programme will officially open on Monday, June 29, 2026.

The programme offers fully funded scholarships for eligible early and mid-career professionals from Nigeria and Ghana to study for a one-year Master’s degree at leading universities across Ireland.

The announcement was made by the Embassy of Ireland in Nigeria through its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, encouraging qualified applicants to prepare their submissions ahead of the application window.

According to the embassy, the scholarship is designed to support talented professionals who have demonstrated leadership potential and are committed to contributing to the development of their home countries after completing their studies.

Successful candidates will study in Ireland under a fully funded package that typically covers tuition fees, accommodation, travel costs and living expenses, allowing scholars to focus entirely on their academic and professional development.

The Ireland Fellows Programme has become one of Ireland’s flagship international scholarship initiatives, aimed at strengthening partnerships with developing countries through education, capacity building and leadership development.

Prospective applicants are advised to review the eligibility requirements and application guidelines on the official Ireland Fellows Programme portal before submitting their applications.

The Embassy noted that applications will open on June 29, giving interested Nigerians and Ghanaians the opportunity to compete for places at some of Ireland’s leading higher institutions.

Education experts say international scholarship programmes such as the Ireland Fellows Programme continue to provide valuable opportunities for Nigerian professionals to acquire global knowledge, strengthen their skills and build networks that can contribute to national development upon their return.

With growing interest in overseas postgraduate education, prospective applicants are encouraged to begin preparing the necessary documents early to improve their chances of submitting complete and competitive applications before the deadline.
