NBC Expands Nigeria Manufacturing Footprint With Three New Production Lines

Nigerian Bottling Company Expands Production Capacity Under $1bn Nigeria Investment Programme

Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Ltd. has expanded its manufacturing capacity in Nigeria with the commissioning of three new production lines at its Asejire and Challawa plants, marking the first phase of a wider capacity expansion programme planned across its Nigerian operations in 2026.

The company commissioned two new production lines at its Asejire plant in Oyo State and one at its Challawa plant in Kano State on 24 June 2026. The new lines are equipped with advanced bottling technology and are expected to strengthen NBC’s production capacity across two of its established manufacturing locations.

The expansion forms part of the Coca-Cola System’s planned US$1 billion five-year investment programme in Nigeria, announced in 2024 and subject to a predictable and enabling business environment. According to NBC, the three newly commissioned lines represent the first phase of a nationwide programme that will introduce additional production capacity across its plants during 2026.

The investment also extends a longer-term capital commitment to NBC’s Nigerian manufacturing network. The company said the latest expansion builds on more than US$1.5 billion invested across its Nigerian operations over the past decade, positioning the new production lines as part of a broader strategy of sustained investment in local manufacturing rather than a standalone capacity upgrade.

At Asejire, the two new production lines add capacity to a plant that forms part of NBC’s longstanding manufacturing footprint in Nigeria. At Challawa, the new line further strengthens a facility that has supported the company’s operations in Kano since 1982. Together, the additions expand NBC’s production infrastructure across the South-West and Northern regions of the country.

The expansion also comes with a wider economic footprint. NBC cited a 2024 socio-economic impact study by Steward Redqueen, which found that the Coca-Cola System generated US$1 billion in value-added economic activity and supported more than 160,000 livelihoods across its Nigerian value chain in 2024. The study also reported that the system sourced US$601 million worth of goods and services from Nigerian suppliers during the year, highlighting the extent to which the company’s operations are connected to domestic suppliers and the wider industrial ecosystem.

From a corporate expansion perspective, the significance of the development lies in the combination of new production capacity, geographic reach and continued capital investment. Rather than expanding through a new greenfield manufacturing location alone, NBC is deepening capacity within an existing national production network, while signalling that additional capacity additions are expected across its plants.

The latest commissioning therefore provides an early indication of how the Coca-Cola System’s announced US$1 billion investment programme is translating into physical manufacturing assets in Nigeria. With further production capacity additions planned for 2026, the next phase of the programme will be important to watch for the scale, location and timing of additional investments across NBC’s manufacturing footprint.

Project Herald Outlook: The expansion strengthens NBC’s position within Nigeria’s consumer goods manufacturing base and signals continued investment in domestic production capacity. The key development to monitor is the rollout of the next phases of the company’s 2026 capacity programme and how additional investment translates into manufacturing output, local sourcing and supply-chain activity.
