Afreximbank has approved $200 million in financing for the second phase of Algeria’s $980 million Hassi Bir Rekaiz oil field development project, advancing one of the country’s major energy investments.
The project is being developed by Groupement Bir Seba, involving Sonatrach, PTTEP and the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation. Nigeria’s Shoreline Group, through its subsidiary Arkad, is also involved in the project’s development.
What to Watch
The latest financing moves the project into a new phase of development, with production expansion and infrastructure delivery now key milestones to monitor.
For The Project Herald, the project is worth watching for its implications for Algeria’s energy output, regional investment flows and growing intra-African participation in major energy infrastructure.
