NVIDIA, OpenAI and SB Energy have announced plans to develop one of the world’s largest artificial intelligence infrastructure campuses at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Pike County, Ohio.
The initial phase of the development will deliver 4.25 gigawatts (GW) of AI computing capacity, with the broader campus designed to expand to 8 GW over time. Under the agreement, SB Energy will build, own and operate the facility, while OpenAI has signed a 20-year lease to occupy the campus. NVIDIA will serve as the exclusive AI computing technology provider and has also committed US$1.5 billion in equity investment into SB Energy. In addition, the company will provide up to US$105 billion in guarantees supporting OpenAI’s long-term lease obligations.
The project also includes major supporting infrastructure. SB Energy and SoftBank plan to develop at least 10 GW of new power generation and invest more than US$4.2 billion in regional electricity grid upgrades to support the campus and future expansion. The first operational capacity is expected to come online in 2028.
